Founded in 1903, YWCA Central Alabama is the state's only YWCA affiliate and one of its oldest nonprofits serving women and families. The organization works at the intersection of race and gender equity with a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, and dignity for all. Programs span four core areas: domestic violence services including a 24-hour crisis line, emergency shelter, counseling, and legal advocacy; affordable housing for families experiencing homelessness and seniors; a nationally accredited Child Development Center providing early learning for homeless, low-income, and working-class families; and workforce development through the YWCA Family Resource Center in Woodlawn offering GED classes, job training for at-risk young women, and leadership development. My Sister's Closet provides affordable clothing. Services primarily cover Jefferson, Blount, and St. Clair counties with statewide impact.
