Founded in 1976, House of Ruth is a 501(c)3 nonprofit serving women, children, and families in the Washington D.C. area who have experienced houselessness and domestic violence. The organization provides a continuum of services across three core areas. Housing Services include 12 housing programs ranging from emergency shelter to transitional and permanent supportive housing for single women and families. The Domestic Violence Support Center offers free counseling to anyone regardless of gender who has experienced domestic violence, including individual therapy, support groups, and trauma-informed mental health care. Kidspace is a no-cost, trauma-informed child and family development center providing high-quality early education and stability for young children and parents. Case managers assist residents with navigating social services, saving money, securing employment, fixing credit, and connecting to outside housing agencies. House of Ruth holds a Charity Navigator Four-Star rating and a Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency 2025.
