New York
The HOPE Center (Healing On Purpose and Evolving) is a free, faith-based mental health clinic established in 2016 at First Corinthian Baptist Church in Central Harlem. In partnership with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the center provides up to 12 free sessions of evidence-based therapy delivered by licensed clinical social workers, social work interns, and psychiatry residents. Services address depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, domestic violence, sexual abuse, substance use, bereavement, and marriage and family concerns. Group programs include grief support groups, men's mindfulness sessions, and THRIVE — a teen mental health program. Psychiatrists on staff can also prescribe and manage psychiatric medications when appropriate. The clinic serves all New York City residents regardless of insurance status and is specifically designed to reach Black and low-income communities in a culturally familiar, accessible setting. Note that the clinic operates with a waitlist; early contact is recommended.
