Disability Rights Texas (DRTx) is the federally designated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) agency for people with disabilities in Texas, funded by the U.S. government and the Texas Access to Justice Foundation. Attorneys and advocates provide free legal assistance to individuals with disabilities in the following areas: abuse and neglect, discrimination in housing, education, employment and public services, special education and IEP disputes, mental health rights, voting access, Social Security benefits, vocational rehabilitation, guardianship alternatives, and supported decision-making. DRTx also advocates through the courts and justice system on behalf of individuals and groups of people with disabilities statewide. Self-advocacy resources are available on their website. Intake lines are staffed Monday through Friday, 9am–4pm. Sign language users can connect via video phone. Online intake is also available through the website.
