The Hawaiʻi Department of Human Services (DHS) is the state's primary agency for public benefits and family support, serving individuals and families across all Hawaiian islands through several divisions. Key programs include SNAP (food assistance), TANF/TAONF (temporary cash assistance for families with children), the Hawaiʻi Relief Program (short-term emergency housing and utility payments for families in financial crisis), Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP), Child Care Program subsidies, General Assistance, Aid to the Aged, Blind, and Disabled (AABD), Med-QUEST Medicaid for low-income adults and children, and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for individuals with disabilities seeking employment.
