DC Department of Behavioral Health (DBH)

District of Columbia

The DC Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) leads Washington D.C.'s public behavioral health system, providing prevention, intervention, and treatment services for children, youth, adults, and families living with mental health and substance use disorders. Services are available through a network of community-based providers and include outpatient counseling, medication management, intensive day treatment, crisis and emergency psychiatric care, residential services, peer support, supportive employment, and housing assistance. DBH operates Saint Elizabeths Hospital, the District's inpatient psychiatric facility, and a 24/7 mobile crisis team that responds to adults experiencing psychiatric emergencies in their homes or in the community. A free pharmacy at 35 K Street NE provides prescribed medications to uninsured residents Monday–Friday 8:30am–5pm. DBH also provides school-based behavioral health services across D.C. public and charter schools and serves individuals with unique needs including Deaf and hard of hearing residents and non-English speakers. The Behavioral Health Resource Link at dbh.dc.gov provides an online directory of mental health and substance use services for all ages. To get connected to services, call the Access HelpLine.
