The NC Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services connects individuals with Certified Peer Support Specialists — trained people with personal lived experience in mental health and substance use recovery. Specialists help clients navigate treatment, housing, employment, and self-advocacy without judgment. Services include a free, confidential 24/7 Peer Warmline (1-855-733-7762), walk-in centers, peer respite homes, post-crisis referrals, and reentry support for individuals leaving incarceration. The CHESS Connections App also offers free chat and phone access to NC-certified peers. Available statewide across North Carolina.
