The Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program, also known as FITAP, is Louisiana’s cash assistance program for eligible families with children. The program provides temporary financial assistance to help children remain in their own homes when they do not have sufficient financial support from their parents. Families can apply for FITAP through Louisiana’s benefits system and may also be able to apply for related supports such as SNAP or Kinship Care Subsidy Program benefits through the same application process. Applicants may need to complete an interview, provide documents, and meet income, resource, household, and program eligibility requirements.
