Black Women's Health Imperative (BWHI)

Florida

Founded in 1983, the Black Women's Health Imperative (BWHI) is the first and only national nonprofit organization created by and for Black women, serving 21 million Black women and girls across the United States. BWHI addresses the most pressing health disparities affecting Black women through signature programs including maternal health, reproductive health, lifestyle change and diabetes prevention, HIV awareness, menstrual equity, rare disease diversity, and HBCU advocacy. Special initiatives include Power in the Pause (menopause and midlife health), I Am HIV Possible, Spare Me (uterine fibroids), and a national health policy agenda. BWHI advocates for federal and state policies that improve health outcomes, trains the next generation of health leaders, amplifies Black women's voices in health research, and publishes evidence-based resources. Their 2025-2026 National Health Policy Agenda serves as a comprehensive roadmap for improving Black women's health outcomes at every level of government and healthcare.
