Shakira O'Garro

I’m Shakira K. O’Garro, a licensed psychotherapist and Black Christian woman who has navigated Stage IV endometriosis, medical trauma, and a faith stretched thin by chronic pain. I founded Cheerful Heart to be the therapist I once needed and couldn’t find. The women I work with are high-achieving, faithful, and used to holding everything together. You’re known as the strong and successful one. But underneath that, you’re exhausted, overlooked, and quietly falling apart. If that’s you, you don’t have to be strong here. Your pain is believed, your faith is honored, and for once, you don’t have to be strong to be seen. Cheerful Heart was created to offer the kind of care many women need but rarely find: care that takes chronic illness, medical trauma, and faith seriously. This is a space where your pain doesn’t need justification, and your healing doesn’t have to fit anyone else’s timeline. Many of the clients I work with are high-achieving, capable, and used to being the one others rely on. At the same time, they’re navigating chronic illness, trauma, or a deep emotional exhaustion that is often invisible to everyone around them.
